Veterans have consistently demonstrated their commitment to serving the nation, and Illinois House Republicans emphasize that their recognition should extend beyond Veterans Day. They argue that policymakers must ensure veterans receive the benefits and support they deserve.

State Representative Mike Coffey is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for veterans and their families. He stated, "Our community owes a profound debt of gratitude to our veterans for their courage and sacrifices in defending the freedoms we cherish in the United States. It is my top priority to support our local veterans through legislation that not only improves their quality of life but also acknowledges their significant contributions to the 95th District, Illinois, and the United States of America."

Seven House Republican legislators who are veterans themselves advocate for issues affecting veterans and military personnel, including suicide prevention, homelessness, and healthcare. These legislators ensure that veterans' voices are heard in the Illinois House of Representatives.

The Illinois General Assembly reviews various laws impacting veterans' lives while overseeing the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs through appropriations. House Republican lawmakers encourage feedback from Illinois veterans via a survey to better serve them.

Among these veteran legislators is Rep. Dan Caulkins, a retired Major with over 22 years in the U.S. Army; Rep. David Friess, an Air Force veteran; Rep. Paul Jacobs, who served in the Navy; Rep. Wayne Rosenthal, a retired Brigadier General from the Air National Guard; Rep. Brandun Schweizer from the Marine Corps; Rep. Dan Swanson, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel; and Rep. Blaine Wilhour from the Army National Guard.

These representatives bring personal experience to legislative efforts aimed at improving conditions for fellow service members.
