Illinois College sets records at Midwest Conference swimming championships

The Illinois College men's swimming and diving team achieved notable success at the Russell K. Osgood Pool and Deck/Natatorium in Grinnell, Iowa. The team set two new school records in relay events during the Midwest Conference Championships.

In the preliminary session, Eli Eberle established a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.41 seconds. Scottie Nicotra also delivered an impressive performance in the 200 IM, recording a time of 1:58.37, which ranks as the third-best effort in program history.

During the evening session, the 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Eberle, Scott Sosnowski, Nicotra, and Nathen Trachta set a new school record with a time of 1:28.27. Additionally, the 400-yard medley relay team comprising John Masiliunas, Cooper Meyer, Eberle, and Nicotra also broke a school record by finishing in 3:33.44.

Cooper Meyer achieved third place in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 293.80, marking it as the second-best score in school history. Nathen Trachta secured seventh place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.37.

Scottie Nicotra returned to improve his morning performance in the 200 IM by over a second during the evening session, finishing fourth overall with a time of 1:57.16—another third-fastest mark for Illinois College's program history.

The Midwest Conference Championships will continue tomorrow.
